LongIsland.com
Redesign
Background: LongIsland.com is a key website for people living on and near Long Island, NY to gain and stay updated on the area’s news and resources. The bus schedule page is often the first search result for “long island bus schedule”, and was clearly relied on by Long Islanders for a period of time.
Our Team
We are a team of three interaction designers (UX/UI) and researchers with three years of experience in this field. We design different physical and digital products with the goal is to solve human problems.

Our goal is to help businesses solve their customers need by developing a more interactive and better designed experience. We make these interactions by understanding customers needs and testing to see if our ideas and solutions are effective.
The Problem
The LongIsland.com bus schedule page, along with a lot of the rest of the website, is outdated, clunky, or just doesn’t work. An unorganized, not working page causes a lot of mistrust in the bus system on LI as the bus system has been greatly privatized in Nassau county. There's so many places that information could be better displayed on this site, as there's as much blank space as there is content.

The Solution
We will redesign the website and create an app to make it easier for present and future bus riders to get to where they need to go. Routes will be displayed for individual buses, similar to Uber, and the users will have a much easier time understanding the bus schedules in their surrounding areas.

Personas

Research
After surveying Long Islanders many of the people participating happen to know know where the nearest bus stop is from their home, yet many avoid taking them due to the process being too complicated; Maybe even if they have their own car.

We decided to make a lot of design choices based off the survey results. Using Apple, Google, Uber and Train Time as inspiration, we were able to create the desired prototypes for what the app and website could look like.
Current Site Analysis

The current site has so much empty space, yet so much clutter. Half of the screen being taken up by white space while the other half is covered in ads and bland information causes this site to be a nightmare. Even the links to the bus routes don't work; They lead to a 404 error.
